Check an e-mail server's security settings

Protectoria Public Services is our free service for testing e-mail server security settings. The check can be executed towards any e-mail server, such as your own, your partners or your clients' e-mail servers.

On the basis on this check, you can detect if (1) you and (2) your communication parties are enabled for encrypted transport of e-mails over the Internet.

If both you and communication parties get OK on these tests it is possible to send encrypted email between the servers. This assumes that you and your partners are using modern e-mail technology and servers where high security settings are enabled.

In case the result of the tests not is OK and you are a normal end user, you will need assistance from an e-mail administrator to configure the actual e-mail server(s) accordingly. For detailed information about this service with explanations of test results, please visit this page.

Be aware of these vulneraribilites and limitations of ordinary e-mail technology seen from the end user perspective:

1) If you have e-mail recipients NOT covered by transport encryption, the server sends the message by default in clear text. But some servers may also be configured to deny your insecure e-mail sending, requiring you to find other methods of sending the message.

2) If your recipient's e-mail server certificate expires, or for some other reason fails, as an ordinary e-mail user, you will not be informed about any security problems with sending the e-mail message. This opens for a huge information security risk, since the server can continue to send confidential information in e-mails, which the end user's possibly may believe are protected.

If you are concerned about these weaknesses, Protectoria can instantly and easily remove the pain.
